Moving Beyond Labels: Why we focus on "Process"
While organic certification provides an important framework for responsible agriculture, we believe it tells only part of the story. We also look closely at how a farm manages biodiversity, soil health, and long-term ecosystem resilience.
Ecosystem-Led Pest Management: Instead of synthetic chemical sprays, our partner farmers encourage the presence of natural predators. Spiders, lacewings, and birds maintain the balance of the garden.
Closed-Loop Soil Nutrition: Rather than applying industrial nitrogen fertilizers, which can lead to rapid but flavor-weak growth, our farmers use organic matter—such as peanut husks, soy dregs, or composted tea trimmings—to nourish the soil slowly.
The Correlation Between Slow Growth and Flavor
From a culinary perspective, "Natural Farming" isn't just about the environment; it is about flavor concentration.
When a tea plant is not pushed by artificial stimulants, it grows at a slower, more natural pace. These are the natural compounds that create the complex sensory notes you enjoy—such as mountain orchid, toasted nut, or sun-ripened fruit.
A tea that is prized for its "Clarity." Many tea producers believe that slower growth can contribute to greater flavor complexity and a more distinctive expression of terroir.
Our commitment to quality rests on three pillars: close relationships with our growers, certified organic & responsible cultivation, and compliance with European food safety standards.
1. Direct Relationships with Our Tea Farmers
We work closely with our producers and maintain direct relationships with the farms where our teas are grown. Through regular communication and on-site visits, we verify cultivation practices, biodiversity efforts, and soil management methods firsthand.
2. Organic & Responsible Cultivation
We work with tea gardens that are committed to careful, responsible cultivation. Most of our gardens are certified organic according to Taiwan’s national organic agriculture standards by Tse-Xin Organic Certification Corporation (TOC), meaning they are cultivated without synthetic pesticides or chemical fertilizers.
One garden is currently not able to obtain organic certification due to its land ownership structure. We nevertheless work closely with the grower and apply the same careful approach to cultivation and sourcing.
3. Compliance with European Safety Standards
Consumer safety is our highest priority. All of our teas are produced in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 396/2005, which establishes strict maximum residue limits for pesticides in food products sold within the European Union. This helps ensure that every batch meets stringent European food safety requirements.
By combining direct farm oversight, certified organic cultivation, and compliance with international safety regulations, we strive to provide tea that is both exceptional in quality and trustworthy in origin.
